Are you a parent in Ontario?

The news that schools won’t be open until September confirms a prolonged financial strain on families – especially those with school-aged children.

The government needs to step up and provide sustained support to families.

Ontario’s Families need help!

Since the outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the government has taken steps to ensure residents of Ontario have access to the vital help they need to get through this challenging time.

On March 25, the Government of Ontario announced it will help families with the extra costs associated with children learning from home while schools and daycares remain closed. Through this initiative, parents receive a one-time payment of $200 per child up to 12 years of age, and $250 for those children with special needs.

This support is a welcome first step in helping families offset the cost of materials to support their children’s learning during this unprecedented challenge.

But more needs to be done. Continued isolation during this national emergency imposes a prolonged financial strain on families – especially those with school-aged children.

We firmly believe that a sustained crisis requires sustained support.

Join us in calling on the Ontario government to institute continuing payments to support the ongoing needs of families with school-aged children.
